Christmas has come and gone - already! Craig finally decided we could put the tree up on the 14th of December - he just didn't want to wait so long for Christmas to come and felt like putting the tree up any earlier would be torture! And the tree came down on Boxing Day as Leah was ready to pack up the house and head back to Canada - but we still had 7 weeks before we could officially get on a plane!
Our Christmas went really well. It was our first time celebrating alone and we made some great traditions that we hope to pass on to our family (someday! no, that's not a hint!)
Christmas Eve we met friends Kaley and Kate and went to the cinema Australia, then out for a bite. We headed home early and watched the Grinch and Charlie Brown Christmas. We were so thankful Len&Carol's and Art&Anne-Marie's christmas presents both arrived the day before. Our tree was more full than we had anticipated! So special to receive things from home. And Rachel sent some gifts with mom&dad's package - thanks Rach!
we woke to the sound of our recycling plant moving around metal with the crane! ahhhhh....sleep in heavenly peace. i pushed it out of my mind feeling like i was a giddy little kid again and was so excited for Christmas morning that I couldn't go back to sleep!
We woke up, opened our stockings that Santa graciously filled. Craig made a special Christmas breakfast complete with a $10 bottle of Canadian Maple syrup as one of our Christmas presents! We spent some time opening our presents, taking pictures and a few videos. There was no rush, and the magic of Christmas somehow made it to Korea in a country that really doesn't celebrate the holiday. We were thankful to be together!
A highlight was spending time on the webcam with Travis&Alicia and watching Ceara open all the gifts as Calen played with the wrapping paper. How special to watch a 2 year old open presents and play with each one. We are so looking forward to spending a month with them come March 2009.
After chatting with family for awhile, Kate came over. As difficult as it was for us to think about Christmas, a friend of mine reminded me how blessed I am to be celebrating with my husband. I can't imagine being in a foreign country with no family and not many friends for the holiday season. We were glad to spend some time with Kate exchanging gifts and eating bacon and egger bagels - bacon and bagels are rare here - while watching those classic Christmas shows like Charlie Brown Christmas and the Grinch.
That evening we knew we weren't going to want to cook a big dinner, so we met with Kate and friend Matthew and went down to Gaeksa to get in line for Outback Steakhouse. Certainly not a family tradition we want to create, but it was nice to eat a meal without the cooking or cleaning! After waiting an hour and a half for our table, our steaks were worth the wait.
Hope yours was wonderful and full of the things we missed out on - extended family, eggnog, snow and...LEFTOVERS!
