Who Said Farms Aren't Fun?!

So, the city folks decided to go out to the farm land this week. Our friends, Dane and Jen, invited us out to Lumby to go quading. Cool! We went on April 23rd.
We drove down to a park and got to see a great waterfall first. Man, I could have stayed there all day. There's something about living in the praries and transitioning to the mountainous-streams and waterfalls that makes you wanna listen to the falls all day.
We geared up and quaded (for the English majors - do you double the 'd' in quad? Quadded or quaded? don' t know). I rode behind Craig - screaming in his ear and cutting off his lungs as I 'clenched' his chest whenever he's go too fast or around a corner - which was ALL THE TIME!! It's not my fault he can't hear anymore.
We found a little stream, then headed up to a deserted cabin to look around.
Then we made it up to the 'summit' (or something mountain-ous like that). It was awesome as we sat and looked out over Lumby. Little town only 40km from Vernon. Then I got to drive the quad for a bit. No screaming from Craig, just a little 'clenching' a couple of times!

Then we went back to the farm and did farm-er stuff! It was a city-kids-field-trip Dream! They had a cow who had a baby, but the little cow died. Momma cow got a pinch ciatic (nope, didn't look that word up in a dictionary either) nerve, paralyzing her back legs. So, Dane and his dad run the farm and they hoisted her up by her hips to relieve the pressure off her legs and get things moving. She'd stand for a second, then drop to the ground. They were hoping she would make it so they didn't have to butcher her.
Good news! The cow was up and walking all by herself yesterday! So, she should be alright.
They had to check on the sick cows, so we watched. Then we went into the field to burn some stuff and made a massive bonfire. Can you hear the city-girl coming out in this?!

But we do ask for prayers for Jen. On Tuesday she was working with Dane's dad at the farm while Dane was out in the field. They were lifting up a 1,000lb barrel and it fell on her. She has a crushed vertabrae by 50%, but thankfully doesn't have to have surgery. They are getting married in 8 weeks and it looks like she'll be in a back brace for 4-6 weeks. We're all thankful she is ok, but still needs a lot of time to heal.

We look forward to quadding with you guys soon, Dane and Jen. Thanks for inviting us and getting the city kids out on the farm.

Hey guys,

Leah, your farm post makes me more than a little homesick!! Thanks for the pictures. Lumby definitly is a beautiful place. Once you've got the farming "bug" it'll never leave, I promise!!

Keep us all posted on how Jen's doing. Our prayers are there!

Chat with you soon. God bless you both in Vernon!
