Remember the song 'well we're movin' on up (movin' on up) to the east side (movin' on up)! To a deluxe apartment in the skyyyyyy!!' - well, we'r not gonna be in a sweet pad like the Jefferson's had, but we are moving - and we'll be on the 4th floor instead of the 2nd.
Not exactly 'Up' either. Korean's use the words 'up' and 'down' to describe when something is better or worse, cool or not, ect. So we are moving into another 3 bedroom apartment on Saturday which has a much bigger kitchen/living room open-concept area (which means UP!). But when we went to look at it with the secretary in charge of the foreign teachers i asked her if she would actually live there. It was pretty dumpy looking (DOWN!) but Craig has visions of small groups in our living room, so we are moving IN!
the living room walls and kitchen are supposed to get wallpapered before we're in and the tiles in the bathroom replaced - (no tub this time, just a 'step up' where the tub should be) so hopefully it's done before we get there.
Se min (friend, Korean teacher, colleauge) told us that our set of apartment were made for 'people who don't have money' - in other words, low-income housing. I asked if they were built in 1923 - she laughed and said she didn't know for sure. As long as there aren't any cocroaches, i will be fine!
all this to say that we'll be here till Friday night (Canadian time) and then who knows when we'll get hooked up again - maybe the same day, maybe never. depends what the low-income housing area has to offer i guess!
Good thing is our aparment is very close to Rachel and new employee/friend Tracy (from South Africa) and still a 10 minute walk to the school - just in the opposite direction. Bad news is Robin is the only one left in Ssang Young aparments and our new neighborhood looks more indstrial then where we are now.
But, all complaints aside, we will have a roof over our heads, and more space for visitors - both local and tourists! so, start planning your vacation to come see us in South Korea!!
