While at Family Camp, we were asked by Dane and Win Kemper if we wanted to go 4 wheeling up to Porcupine Mountain. For those of you who have been there, it's a beautiful view. But for us, we never did get there.
The trip up was just too much for my stomach to handle. I'm from the prairies! I can't handle curves and turns!! So, i wasn't feeling well, and the group of nearly 20 parked the cars and went to load up in the trucks. They said to take our time cause they would wait for us. We went to meet up with them - and they drove off!! now, i know that we're sort of new to family camp, but it's not like the people we were going with didn't know us - in our van driving there we were with our landlords and our preachers! you'd think they'd remember.
We were just standing there in shock, like, what are we gonna do for the next 2 hours in the 38 degree weather?! so we headed down to the Kettle River and found shetler under a bridge. We swam around for awhile, went exploring a mining cabin, walked down all the paths, picked wild strawberries, and just spent time by ourselves. it was really awesome actually.
and what we thought would be 2 hours of waiting for the group ended up being 4 due to 3 breakdowns during their off-roading session. i'm sure my stomach wouldn't have been able to handle all that!
Quality time when you don't expect it. The little gifts God gives to you and people you love.
