A bag of Oranges

the other day, as we were leaving Superstore - the biggest stinkin Superstore in Western Canada - we noticed something 'out of place' that we have not seen very much of since moving to one of the wealthiest places in Canada.
A young man was sitting on the corner with a sign saying 'need food. broke my arm and cannot work'. we watched as the cars passed by and when it came to our turn to stop near the man as we turned the corner, we too read his sign, look at his physical condition, and kept going. "shouldn't we give him something we just bought?" , and craig turned the car around, went into Superstore, bought a salad, bag of oranges, and a fresh sandwhich. This is sort of Craig's 'calling in life', so i parked the car as he went out to talk to the guy.

Craig was kinda freaked out as he got back into the car 20 minutes later - not from being around a drug addict or around someone who used words that we try hard not to, because craig has spent lots of time around people who have problems we'll never understand by working at the Mustard Seed in Calgary. He was freaked out because here was this 24year old drug addict who just 'got himself in a bad spot and was trying to get himself out of it' spoke and looked exactly like my brother - Josh Sass. That's probably why they hit it off, cause craig could relate to him. His name is also Josh, and he's staying at the men's shelter in town, he just isn't able to work right now. He talked about how it's hard for him to believe he's in this spot, but he's trying to get out of it.
"And you know, man, i totally believe it God. I know He'll get me out of this. He knows who I am and He'll take care of me." Craig's response was "do i have God written all over my face or what?" "No, man. I just believe in God. He's totally been there for me in the past. He'll take care of me." "yeah, Josh. you're right. he will. just keep talking to him and being in conversation with Him and He'll take care of you."

A drug-addict-broken-armed-living-in-a-shelter young man was the best example of an evangelist that i have met in a long time. We gave him a bag of oranges - to make ourselves feel better? to help him out? whatever our reasons, he was the one who brought up the Giver of Life to a perfect stranger. I can only pray that i could have that much courage and learn from Josh.

Thanks for your witness, Josh. May God take care of you - wherever you end up. Thanks for touching our lives so much in so little time.

Nice.

I love how God turns the tables on us like that - "the helper helps then gets helped himself."
